did he work with justin harder on the winterfresh spots? because they both have the same one in their reel, and that's sorta confusing...

my understanding is the since justin's work is so tight a lot of people who played even a minor role (as he said "anyone who answered the phone or emptied the trash") in the production have taken credit for it. i'm not saying that's the case here by any means, but if you notice you see a lot of those same spots on other people's reels. just thought i would mention it.

I was the creative director at Heavy when we did that spot. I directed it. Justin was an in-house designer at heavy at the time and he did almost all the design and animation. Sooo, the spot is now on Team Heavy (the original company), Buck (my new company) , and Justin's reel (the designer/animator). Hope that clears it up.

so, regarding most of your work, do you do mostly direction, moreso than the actual design and animation? just wondering.

We do all of it. But Buck is a company and there are a lot of people in the process. We have 13 people at buck and at heavy there were over 20 when I worked there. I personally do not do too much design/animation anymore, although some stuff on our reel I did. We have found, and i think this is true for most companies, that in order to get a higher volume of quality work done people need to specialize and collaborate.

buck, I love your site and reel.
It's always great to see designers with a sense of humor.

their work keeps getting better and better, but i don't like this new reel as much as their last two, because the music in the last two reels just kicked so much ass... i'm not feeling this song as much.

My favorite part of this latest Buck reel iteration is the 1970s, educational video-style endtag. It reminded me of Tomorrow's Brightest Minds reel intro.

That endtag was awesome!

Buck is one of my favorite studios out there, but i dont think this reel does them justice, I dont think they show there best stuff first, or enough of certian spots they have done and i think they show too much of other spots... IE: they cut back multiple times to the various nfl team animations, but i think they only show the latest NFL Network superbowl spot once if i remember correctly...

Dont get me wrong i love there work, however I think there reel could be put together in a more effective way.

Those are great. Had me frame-by-framing through a couple of those.
