Believe it or not, I have found a website with FREE FOOTAGE...

OK.. it is olde histroic stuff (lots of it very funny!) The Website is called Archive.org and they provide a collection that is free and open for everyone to use. They say their goal is digitizing images and putting them online to provide easy access to a rich and fascinating core collection of archival films. They provide "near-unrestricted" access to these films and hope to encourage widespread use of moving images in new contexts by people who might not have used them before.....

They also have a variety of clips from SIGGRAPH available for download..

"Footage taken from 1891 to 1922 with Edison's Kinetograph. This collection features 341 Edison films. The earliest example is a camera test made in 1891, followed by other tests and a wide variety of new items and dramas up until the year 1918. Nice historic black & white footage. The QuickTime versions of these clips are a bit too low-res, though the MPG versions are all 320x240"
