Any suggestions of cool stuff to check out this year or tips in general?

Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2014

Any good mograph/vfx/camera/sound deals? I found this lifehacker link with some "pre-Black Friday" deals but some of the stuff like the GoPro offer is gone already.

What's your favorite "trick"?

10 October 2014 - 10:09 PM

A while back when I realized you could hold down Shift and an Arrow key to do a text selection instead of click dragging, it made me think "How many years have I not been taking advantage of this?!"

I know there's a million little shortcuts in each respective program but what tip or shortcut stands out as life changing for you?

C4D Content Browser Organization

24 September 2014 - 06:23 PM

One thing that's always bothered me about the Content Browser is how it splits things up into Broadcast/Prime/Studio/Visualize and each has 3D Objects, Materials, etc. I don't care what package it came from but would like to browse through all 3D Objects in a single "3D Objects" folder. Found this older posting from Zmotion about making directories in favorites and manually moving stuff over but wanted to know if there was a built in way in newer versions? And if not is there a way to export this favorites data for when you need to jump on another machine so you don't need to do the process over and over again?

RAW/CinemaDNG import workflow, Resolve, AE, etc.

09 June 2014 - 06:35 AM

I have footage captured in Magic Lantern .raw format, converted it to CinemaDNG and want to make Prores proxies. I've done this exact workflow before with Resolve to roundtrip to FCP/Premiere but I noticed for some reason the default skin tones in Resolve aren't as pleasing/more red compared to the Raw import of AE which I think looks better.

1) Is there a way to skip the Raw Import settings that pop up every time in AE so I can simply apply the same color balance settings to all after it's been imported? I looked into the interpretation rules.txt file but not sure what to do for .dng stuff

2) Or does anyone have a LUT or workflow for Resolve that simulates the skin tones closer to what ACR is doing?

I tried exporting a .xml file from Resolve of the dng files and importing that into AE but it's been freezing up.
