    OS X 10.7

Will we now download Cinema 4D and After Effects off of the App Store?
  4. As far as the cherries go, I was being facetious, because it's such a well known example, obviously, and it has been imitated. Heck, I was tempted to, but I know better than to touch 'em with a ten foot pole. Maybe raspberries.
  5. Just to be clear, I have no intentions of copying tutorials and passing them off as my own work. I think it's wrong to do that, and I don't want my name smeared. But I do like to watch tutorials and learn and mess around with features I never thought to mess with. Maybe concept is the wrong word choice. I like to think you can learn a feature, or see a particular problem solved by watching a tutorial, and use the "tool" you have learned and later apply it to something else in one of your own projects. For example, I was trying to make some fish swim around and arrange themselves into words. I was able to do that before I saw Nick's tutorial, but after seeing the dynamics applied as well as the effectors, and the cooler way the objects seemed to arrange themselves, I decided pop that project back open and to apply that technique.
  6. How much, if any, can we use CONCEPTS we see in tutorials or things we see? You can't tell me everything I see on network TV is absolutely original. For example, can anyone use cherries again, now that they've been in a tutorial?
  7. I have to say this looks pretty cool.
  8. Looks interesting on first glance, but after reading the description, what info is here that I can't find with a little searching online? Are there some "secrets?" I see the words "broad look." Is there some really good in-depth stuff that I can't find in Mylenium's tutorials? Show us some video - tantalize us!
  9. There have been a few threads about originality. Thought this might be funny - a little blast from the past. I showed this to a few people I knew at our local small-town TV station a few years ago and NOBODY picked up the sarcasm... http://lekowicz.com/library/logohell/logohell.html
  10. Cool. I'm running C4D 10.5 with Leopard on my macbook pro. Maybe I'll give SL a try.
  11. I didn't see this discussed - has anyone tried Cinema 4d 10.5 on Snow Leopard?
  12. I haven't watched the video I bought yet because I haven't been hooked to the internet enough lately, so I can't answer your question. I think I'm going to stick from now on with stuff I can download from people who trust their customers. I mean, I have trusted them with my credit card number, for crying out loud.
  13. FYI, I wrote Chris this morning, and this was his reply as to allowing me a downloadable version: we dont have anything like that anymore. our system has been overhauled 10x in 3 years. And we are working on the 11th now. There will be some changes this fall. but it wont be anything a person could pirate easily. -c
  14. It's great being able to work wherever I go!
  15. There is a new "Blender for Dummies" book that has just come out. http://www.blender3d.org/e-shop/product_in...products_id=114 There is a pretty informative sample chapter to look at. It looks like a pretty good book. Blender is a great program once you make sense of it, but one gripe I had about this free software is the lack of current documentation. This book seems to cover that problem pretty well. I am a Cinema 4D user, but would love to explore Blender more because it has very robust features which, for Cinema 4D, you would have to pay more for to get the modules added. Blender has node based compositing, an object manager, and some other features that were lacking when I first bought Cinema 4D. It has fluids, dynamics, a game engine, and other advanced features as well.
  16. Man, I thought one gig per core was supposed to be enough. Now it's two? Hey, you know what's fun? Go and configure a Mac Pro with EVERYTHING. I want it all, dang it. Obviously, I can't afford this. But hey, spend what you can afford on a computer you prefer. I like Mac, but can certainly work on Windows if it's with a cool program like C4D or something Adobe. $20,165.00 Ships: 6-8 weeks Next business day delivery available Click "Update Details" to reflect changes to system price and shipping. Sho' Reel 08

My feeling is that your reel should be shorter - closer to a minute than two minutes - maybe edit your clips down more to make them fit. The old style black and white effect of the bridge seems to interrupt the flow of your reel. The clip that comes right before the graffiti clip needs more contrast, perhaps. Your reel also seemed to take awhile to download. Hope this helps. Steven J.
  18. Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to review my reel and for the feedback! I will definitely work on implementing the suggestions I've gotten. You're right, Chris, about the Troika thing, and thanks for the technical and artistic expertise. I just went and looked at their montages again. I love their style and am inspired by it.
  19. So by putting noise in the diffuse channel of my materials, that will help with the plasticky look? Because I have been vexed over how to improve that somehow.
  20. I export them sometimes. I do my work from a laptop and get squeezed on hard drive space at times, so I do it sparingly, and usually delete them once I'm done with them. Time to buy more drive space I guess. But I still have the C4D scenes and I can just export the mattes to fix this problem. Thanks, Steven J.
  21. After I converted, uploaded, and waited for Vimeo to encode the video, I noticed some framerate issues in the soccer and building fly through pieces that I know are easily fixable and will be fixed in the next iteration. I guess pointing stuff like that out may not be the best approach... Thanks, Steven J.
  22. I was afraid of that. I was concerned about using a piece of music that would violate copyrights. So I threw something together in Garageband. I'm guessing ANYTHING else would work? Ha! The music is one thing I've had the hardest time coming up with. I guess I just gave up. Back to the drawing board on that, too. Although I have an idea... But for the moment, please, for your own sanity, hit the mute button.
