  1. C4D is great for just a design tool. I started out the same way as you when I picked up Cinema and just wanted to use it to broaden my graphic design portfolio. I eventually got to the point where I wanted to see my designs in motion as well. I would really recommend starting out with some GreyScaleGorilla.com basic lighting and texturing tutorials. He will show you how to light and texture nice looking designs quickly. Just go onto his website and start going through stuff.

  3. Yes, right click on the grid and choose "show in separate window". Then you will be able to scale this as needed.
  4. I just worked on one that was 8000x1200 but it was a 40 minute long piece. We used AE on our render farm which really helped. As for the 360 renders from cinema it may help to use a reflective sphere with the bake texture tag on it. Good luck

  6. My biggest issue from what I remember hearing is that you can not set job priority. This would be a major gap in the pipeline at my studio. We are constantly working on multiple jobs rendering simultaneously needing certain shots or jobs rendering first. I would love to use it but for that reason I can't I will have to stick with Thinkbox Deadline... correct me if I am wrong about this since I heard it discussed at Siggraph.
  7. I am underwhelmed also. Faster render times are nice but overall not impressed. Seems totally like a .5 upgrade to me. It does add a couple improvements but I was looking for some "wow" factor like they have been giving us on every release.

  12. Need more info from you. Are you using physical or standard render for the final output? Also are you using any SSS materials?
  13. I am a full time animator and art director. I will work from 9-7 on a normal day and I take on motion graphic freelance jobs on the side. It can sometimes get tiring though working all day on motion graphics then going home and doing it from 9 pm til I get to go to sleep. But the pay is really nice especially since the college loans are not disappearing any time soon. It is definitely important to have a balance of work and living your life though in order to not get burnt out. Or at least just a little personal time where you are not working to keep your sanity.

  15. This looks like an effect that can be achieved simply in softimage ICE. We used it during a project for the artist Skrillex seen here: (can be seen around 1:15) It handles those kinds of "stringy" fluids really well.
  16. You could make this in Cinema 4d very simply with a particle system or cloner system and the plugin UberTracer in "web" mode I think.(which is a free plugin: http://www.genemagtoto.com/c4dplugins/ ) If you type in UberTracer in vimeo's search engine you will see multiple examples.

  18. I am working on a project and I need to render out my animation 360 degrees because it is going to be put through Touch Designer and projected onto a sphere. Is there any way to do this in cinema 4d with a spherical camera render? I believe Vray has this capability but do not know of any way to render with cinema 4d. Any Plugins that do this? I found this but do not want to spend that kind of money when I just need a spherical camera (http://www.cebasstation.com/index.php?pid=product&prd_id=99&feature=991) I know I can save individual frame as hdr texture map but how could I do an entire sequence?
  19. I have had the same issue and could not come up with a solution. I got the reflection to look good from a distance but on close up shots with reflections I always see low res type reflections. I have tried increasing the subdivisions, and anti-aliasing with no luck. Would be nice if someone has a solution for this or could shed some light on the issue

  22. Kyah, I would cut the "rubber" clip in the begging by half the time, it holds too long and lacks interest. I would think about taking out the "Goonies" clip as it feels like it was a test to learn AE and feels dated as well as the "Universal Vibe" clip at the end. Really the only thing slightly interesting in that clip is the CD closing at the end but it's not enough to show.
  23. I would say this is the correct range as well. All dependent on the work you will be doing there, the type of studio it is, your skills as well as daily hours per day.
  24. I have done a handful of projection mapping for live events and onto complex 3d objects. I would give different tips based upon how complex the object is that you want to project on, how powerful your projectors are, if you are projecting inside a studio environment or outside and what your point of view is when projecting. But initially we always bring the object into a 3d program and lock the camera to align the projectors to. If it's a building structure for example, we will take a super high resolution digital scan of the surface. If it's a product such as a car we will usually be provided with the 3d model to align the deigns to.
  25. Thanks Benmasterson, I did not end up using the hair renderer for the grass because I knew I had to have detailed close up shots. Along with the video I had to provide Intel with scene shots at 8400x4800 for printed banners so I needed more detail in the grass than the hair renderer provided. After briefly trying d-pit plants, x-frog grass and the hair renderer I ended up using "hq-Grass". HQ Grass got quick results and with our timeline that was a big advantage. It comes with materials to render from vray, AR, maxwell and fry render. For details it looks really nice but doesn't have the ability to be effected by wind ect. It comes with various small patches that you stitch together to cover the surface.
