  1. holy shit. all these names. all these memories. I can't believe I remembered my password!
  2. I'm considering picking this up before year end: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=113&cp_id=11307&cs_id=1130703&p_id=10509&seq=1&format=2&utm_expid=58369800-11.KFcpHWqASSutMqNPOqaJVg.0&utm_referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.monoprice.com%2F%3Fab2%3Db
  3. I'm wondering if any of you guys have a preferred external drive for on-the-go use. Actual use, not just back up. In looking for the fastest externals I've pretty much found that USB 3.0 with an SSD is pretty legit. Thunderbolt seems to only have a slight edge (and not many options). I specifically want bus-powered so as to only have to plug in the macbook pro. Here are my top two choices: OWC Envoy Pro EX 240GB Portable, Bus-Powered USB 3.0 Storage Solution with OWC Aura Pro SSD http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/ENVPROU3S240/ Averages about 416mb/s READ 430mb/s WRITE $320 for 240GB Akitio - Neutrino Thunderbolt Edition - 256GB - bus powered. http://www.akitio.com/portable-storage/neutrino-thunderboltedition Averages about 502mb/s READ 311mb/s WRITE $340 for 256GB Have you found any others that compare? Which would you choose?
  4. You can do a google hangout with your trusted crew with the screenshare feature.
  5. I gotta chime in here. Haven't been around for a while, but came on to learn what everyone thinks of CC. To the guys bitching about costs - of $30 - $60 a month... seriously? SERIOUSLY?! You should be making that in an less than an hour or two of paid professional work. Buck up. As a business owner and animator myself I am more than psyched to know that all of my contractors will now be on the same software version from here on out. Can't tell you how many times I've hired someone only to find out they are on an older version of AE etc. The fact that it works for +90 days without internet is excellent for when we are all animating from the rainforest for three months straight.
  6. Just wanted to add that it's working splendidly on the retina MBP.
  7. Has anyone ordered and received the new retina macbook pro yet? If so can you enlighten us on how the non optimized adobe apps are displaying - especially After Effects? I know C Smith said he was taking the plunge. Anyone else? I ordered, but it won't arrive till mid July. I'm curious if we'll all need to work from external monitors until the apps are updated to see our videos at the proper - non pixel doubled resolution. I mainly ordered it for the dual thunderbolts and USB 3 - to essentially go mobile and replace my aging mac pro tower - didn't give much thought to resolution issues until I started reading reviews and blogs on it. 8. I miss this board - it's been a while. I'm gonna do my best to get involved again. Thanks for all you guys do. - OG edamame circa 2004
  9. Thanks Mike! And thanks for your advice prior to this. yeah - i wasn't sure if this was a collaboration or a job and since I did have a small expense budget I figured job post would be best. Thank you! Yeah! I posted the full credits to vimeo. Even Ferd helped out, but unfortunately I couldn't get his stuff to fit into final edit (probably my mistake for over directing him). All of these guys helped out immensely: Andrew Samuel Embury, Martynas Puodziunas, Kyle Bastian, Doug Sand, & Matt Rankin
  10. I'm in a lil predicament. I was approached by a company a few months ago to animate a brand identity for a huge corporate event for a well known company. The animation was part of a pitch to sell them on the identity. The identity AND animation were only intended for EVENT branding (ie: the launch of the company's latest product). Well, the pitch went great - they went ga-ga over the animation and made a deal with the company that hired me to not only use it for the event signage, but for the actual product line as well (ie: all ads, packaging, etc). The company that hired me kept me on to do the actual event motion design (and they are pretty sick looking), but are insisting that their client owns everything and that they can use it for whatever they want. I included in my estimate the following: USAGE OPTION 01) $XXXX USDThe client “NAME HERE” may use the animations for event / internal / non-commercial advertorial web usage (web coverage of event) in perpetuity. Does not include licensing for web or television advertising.USAGE OPTION 02) $XXXXX USDThe client “NAME HERE” may use the animations in all media including print, online, and broadcast in perpetuity.THIS INCLUDES ALL PROJECT SOURCE FILES Client just called me and told me they are intending on using some of the ambient animations I'm creating for banner ads etc and they don't seem to be for the event, but for the product (as these ads will run AFTER the event). I'm sure they will want to use the logo sting for any broadcast commercials as well. I'm not sure what to do. If I could compare this to anything it would be like being asked to animate the AT&T logo resolve for a corporate event of theirs and then they end up using it at the tail end of every commercial they air for the next 2-3 years and you only got paid for event signage. Please let me know your thoughts and feel free to virtually slap me if you think I'm being a baby. I was inspired to do this after reading this blog post on pricing: http://www.jessicahi...-art-of-pricing
  11. Over the next two weeks we'll be pumping out a title sequence for the AIGA PIVOT DESIGN CONFERENCE. Look feel will be similar to: http://vimeo.com/25181651 and http://vimeo.com/29378261 I'm looking for animators who are willing to work remotely off of a dropbox. We will need lots of small geometric sprites animated and quick scenes. AE and/or C4d preferred. Disclaimer: We are doing this purely for fun and free for the AIGA, but they do have a small budget which can at least buy you an awesome night out. Art Director is jonashcroft.com skype/ichat "flockofpixels" if interested email: info at flockofpixels.com cheers! -justin! www.flockofpixels.com
  12. Thanks! The TASER project is posted on vimeo : Currently switching my site over so all content will be hosted on vimeo - so done with flvs. Also - sorry for late reply... Looks like my email alert settings were changed. Ps. The "singer" character is me - it's a scene from a commercial I did for NYC Dept of Transportation. Cheers!
  13. OK - if you can get get past the design and mograph - there is a compelling and amazing story being told in this film. It's available to watch for free on vimeo until the 20th - I highly suggest you do!
  14. Well it's been 2 years and I finally got around to cutting a new show reel for my company Flock of Pixels. Tried a different kind of cut on this one - keeping project clips together to form tiny montages throughout. Have at it! cheers! -justin!
