Find edges help

Recommended Posts

After a few searches on the board I realized I have to ask this question, does anyone know of an easier, smoother way to generate "strokes" for layers in AE (they have alpha) WITHOUT ruining them, I've been using Find Edges but

its too "crispy" ... are there any workarounds to smooth the find edges effect without medians / blurs ?

thanks!

How about using Stroke under Layer Styles. Another trick I used to use is putting a few drop shadows on the layer at different angles. That would put a decent stroke around an alpha channel

Wow T.Blain! THANKS!

I've tried the drop shadow but I completely forgot about Layer Styles! :D

damn! :(

for some reason the stroke coming from "layer styles" is worse than the drop shadow result its totally edgy / jagged / crispy.

try duplicating the layer, tint the lower layer the color you want the stroke, then try using some matte choker effects to expand the size of the layer below which will be your stroke.
