Tracer and Point node Question

I have a Platonic where I deleted all the polygons so I just have points. Then I hooked up a null (with a tracer object) to the point position of a point node, and am animating the point index so the null is moving along the points of the platonic. This gives me a shape but not exactly what the original platonic looks like. I was hoping for the end result to look like what an atom array does.

 

Anybody know how to do this, or have some insight?

If you can do this any more awkward, I think I don't want to know... Simply use the platonic as a reference in a matrix/ cloner object and choose connect nodes in the tracer... Convert to spline, make linear, remove segments, apply whatever light-painting or whatever you have in mind by using sweep nurbs, hair, your mom's lipstick...
