AE Depth effect

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I just watched a video on Vimeo and i have been wondering how does he do

to animate the ants at second 0:50 and also how does he give the effect of depth, i mean i don't see the ants like a 2d layer, it seems to have some z depth, are this shape layers? if so, does anyone know

any cool tutorial for it? its weird that videocopilot doesn't got 1.

Here's the video (the colour and tracking is amazing)

@ second 0:50

btw: i think all of it is ae, but maybe it can be done with c4d + sketch & toon

thanks for readin'

In the comments: "The DOF is generated by a simple 50mm 1.8 wide open on a 550d/t2i. the blur on graphic elements is greatly "cheated" by Lolo in after effects"

I'd guess the graphical elements/characters are 2D objects in 3D space, just tracked in and then blur added by hand to match the camera blur.

Argh. Argh.

Try deconstructing this simple motion piece instead of looking for a tutorial.

It's very simple. You get very narrow DoF footage with a DSLR (easy) and do everything in AE. You can use the included Lens blur for the little tracked graphical elements.

Strongly agree with pix3l on this one - you don't have to look for a tutorial on everything. Andrew Kramer doesn't have to tell you how to do *everything.* Lucky for you, someone explained exactly how to do this in the comments on Vimeo.

It looks like things were tracked, composited in AE, and given some nice type treatments to sell it.

Give it a try and show us what your result is!

You didn't just link to Ken Rockwell...

And yes, the nifty fifty is a badass lens for ~$100 (even for a crop sensor like the 60d/7d)

You can get sexy bokeh.

If you need f/1.4, look at the 30mm Sigma.
