New Wacom Graphics Tablets

Wacom has some new Bamboo tablets that seem to be replacing everything under the Cintiq.

They're kind of confusing because the price goes up by $20 due to the color of the product. The high end one is actually a larger tablet (at twice the price of the smaller one). Two of the three have a bluetooth option for an extra $30, which could come in handy considering how Apple's making USB ports scarce.

Then there's the Cintiq 24 HD

It looks cool, but it weights 70 pounds and costs $2500. Not for the road warrior.

Nice roundup.

Regarding Wacom. Glad to see the new Bamboo's w/ touch although I'm curious if the drivers will play nice with OSX. I've heard the previous models had some issues... but I'd rather dump the Magic Track Pad if possible. Been a long time Bamboo user after I went through a few Intuos models thanks to my propensity to spill beverages on anything electronic and expensive.

That being said, I've been coveting a Cintiq for quite some time. The new version looks awesome, but like you said - pricey and cumbersome. Anyone have any eexperience with the 12 inch model? Despite the fact that I'll likely douse it in root beer, after sketching on my iPad I'm hungry for that same experience but with Wacom's pressure sensitivity.

I have the Cintiq 12". It's a mixed bag. It's small enough so you can hold it in your lap and draw/sculpt, but the small size means less screen real estate so you're zooming in a lot. Due to the massive cables it's not a mobile solution either and the screen isn't that color accurate, but at that size you're not using it as a proper monitor anyway. I'll bust it out sometimes for some zbrushing or sketching but there hasn't been an "OMG this is so much better than my regular intouis" moment.

The 24HD looks nice but it's huge, heavy and costs a shitload of money. Unless you paint/sculpt/draw all day I doubt it's worth the investment. I still use a mouse for regular 3D and video stuff.
